About us

Guirdolim Club was incepted in the year 1962 by our prominent villagers. Back then it was christened as Guirdolim Youth Association (GYA). The GYA was registered with the Goa, Daman and Diu state council of sports on 2nd of June 1970 under registration number SCS-5/70/90. During this time the GYA did not have any permanent office and the meetings were held at various places. Under the presidency of Mr Francis Vaz a permament office on rent for the GYA was set up at Carmino D’Costa building. In the year 1975 Adv. Joe Antao was elected President of GYA who along with his dedicated team of executive committee members felt the need to widen the scope of the GYA activities and to achieve this the name of the institution was changed from “Guirdolim Youth Association” to “Guirdolim Club”. In the year 1980 under the presidency of Mr Joseph Vaz Simoes, Guirdolim club was registered under the Indian Societies Act 1860 bearing registration number 27/Goa/80. In the year 1980, Shri Bill Cardoso (Patron of the club) donated his prime land and cash of Rs 40000 to build the current sports complex cum multipurpose hall for which the foundation stone was laid in the same year. Shri. Joseph Mascarenhas (Patron in Chief of the club) was instrumental along with Shri Antanasio Antao (president of the club for 18 years) and Shri Remedious Filipe Fijardo (General secretary of the club for 20 continuous years) for seeking funds from all over Goa to complete the club complex. The club’s sports complex cum multipurpose hall was inaugurated by the then Chief minister of Goa Dr. Luis Proto Barbosa in the year 1991. Grants of Rs 3 lakhs was received from the government of Goa for the construction of the sports complex.
